I assume you have read my Content is King page, and now want to know how to develop your content. Well, content development starts with keyword development.
You should already have chosen the theme of your web site and now your next step is breaking that theme down into smaller topics, preferably organized in several sections each with multiple web pages. This is the first attempt at identifying your content, and it really does not matter yet if this initial break down is perfect or not. Just try to think of as much topics for web pages as you can and try to organize them initialy
Identifying your keywords.
The most important part of this first phase of the planning of your content consists of identifying the keywords people will use to find your web site. For each page of content you have identified try to come up with a few of the most likely keywords that people will use, and write them down. Now you have your list of keywords, we are going to analyze them for popularity and for completeness. A good site to use for this task is DigitalPoints keyword tracker
Test your major keywords with this tool and rank them. Find longer keyword sentences that contain one of your major keywords and still fit within your topics and add them to your keywords. Almost every time I do this I find that my initial break down of topics was not complete or that I have identified several keyword sentences that nobody ever uses. If you have identified an unpopular keyword phrase, you will find that alternative keyword phrases will often be available with a much higher popularity.
