HTML editors

Free HTML editors and not so free HTML editors.

There are lots of good free HTML editors and some excellent commercial HTML editors, but what should you look for in an HTML editor.

I often read on web design sites that all you need for editing your web pages is Notepad. I don't agree with that at all. You really need a good HTML editor that can annotate the structure of your HTML code in color and with identation, while it is also very helpfull if you can switch quickly between viewing and editing the code and viewing the way your code would be displayed in a browser. As nowadays you should not be using your HTML editor to create new web page designs, you don't need editors like Dreamweaver or Frontpage that generate code for you. Although it is nice if there is some assistance with creating forms. Just make sure your HTML editor does not ruin your clean HTML code.

Free HTML editors.

I have not evaluated these free editors so it's up to you to decide which one you like most.
